About the Museum

geraldinephotosupdated_14.JPG

The Geraldine Historical Museum is operated by the Geraldine Historical Society and supported by a dedicated team of friendly volunteers. Their commitment ensures that the district’s stories, artefacts, and records are preserved and shared for future generations.

Our volunteers welcome visitors, assist with research enquiries, and care for the collection with pride and attention. Many bring personal knowledge of the area, adding depth and authenticity to the museum experience.

The museum reflects the strong community spirit of Geraldine, built not only from stone and archives, but from the ongoing contribution of local people who value their history.

Timeline

1885

The bluestone Town Board Office is constructed, becoming the centre of local civic admin..

1905

Geraldine becomes a borough. The building continues to serve as Borough Council offices.

1975–1976

The building is re-erected at its present site through community effort and volunteer support. Building opens 1976.

MID 20TH CENTURY

New council facilities are built as the township grows. The original stone building is no longer required for admin use.

2026

The Wharton Room (circa 1927, formerly the Ladies Restroom) is currently being carefully restored as a new addition to the Museum. This beautifully preserved space will feature 1920s memorabilia, alongside a small gift selection and a curated area of second hand books for sale.

1980's - 2025

Over this time the museum has had three building extensions, the most recent opening in 2014 with a large open display area downstairs and archive storage upstairs. In 2024 the museum entrance was moved to the double doors into the new extension, and in 2025 audio and visual components were added to several displays.

1857

Land is set aside as a town reserve. The township is officially named Geraldine.
